Compusult had the privilege of collaborating with PicSea on a recent multi-partner collaborative project. The PicSea team, led by Andrew Durrant, was always very hard working, driven, enthusiastic, and responsive to our requests for information and support throughout the project. PicSea’s Model 300E Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (AUVs) were proven to be technologically advanced, rugged, and able to perform for many hours on end during our integrated field programs. The PicSea team ran dozens of autonomous missions, exploring the Conception Bay, Newfoundland ocean floor while gathering and sharing invaluable data to help paint a picture of the subsea landscape. The AUVs were seamlessly controlled remotely from PicSea’s home office in Scotland by utilizing the cellular network and cameras in our Nanuk Uncrewed Ground Vehicle (UGV). It was remarkable that such impressive pieces of technology could explore and map a large section of ocean floor all from a control center thousands of kilometers away, with only the help of someone locally for deploying an AUV into the ocean and retrieving it hours later, following completion of a successful mission. Compusult’s partnership with PicSea was very productive. As a result, we’re now pursuing new opportunities with PicSea and look forward to working with their personnel and technology on many other future projects.
